OU and the battle for Texas

The battle wages on. Tech fired the latest shot against OU, but it's always interesting with the Sooners, Horns, Aggies and Red Raiders.

Oklahoma is in a battle. A familiar one, for sure, but still a battle. There are certain positions where OU can come in and dominate on the recruiting trail.

And others where work needs to be done. Offensive line hasn’t been kind even though no coach works harder than Bill Bedenbaugh. Three schools, very familiar schools, have been a thorn in the side: Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M.

With Arlington (Texas) Bowie’s Madison Akamnonu choosing Tech on Saturday, that marks eight OU offers on the line to those three schools. Three to both Tech and Texas A&M and two to Texas so far for 2015.

Here is a list of all the players OU has offered so far in this cycle that have committed to one of these three schools.

Now we’ll flip it. Because it’s not like OU can’t win any of these battles, it just needs to happen a little more frequently for OU fans to be happy.

Here are all of OU’s commits and whether or not they have an offer from any of the three schools. Just because they don’t doesn’t mean OU whiffed or settled, it’s just a statement of fact. The three schools also have commits that the others never really looked at, either.

OU commits

Katy (Texas) running back Rodney Anderson (Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M)

League City (Texas) Clear Falls wide receiver John Humphrey (Texas Tech)

Allen (Texas) offensive tackle Bobby Evans (assume all, but he never reported any after OU)

Lancaster (Texas) offensive guard Dominique Hearne (Texas Tech)

Burleson (Texas) defensive end Kenneth Mann (None)

Metairie (La.) Rummel defensive end Tyrell Jacobs (None)

Jenks (Okla.) defensive tackle Marquise Overton (Texas Tech)

Pflugerville (Texas) Hendrickson cornerback P.J. Mbanasor (Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M)

And of course no list is complete without a look at some of the remaining battles featuring OU and at least one of the three schools. Not all of these are legit competitions because it’s clear there are some favorites.

But there are definitely a few worth circling heading into the fall.

Notable battles for uncommitted prospects

Aledo (Texas) High wide receiver Ryan Newsome (OU, Texas)
