Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian High School class of 2015 linebacker Andre Smith has been committed to North Carolina since last season. The 6-foot-0 and 220-pound senior has been hearing from a handful of programs this summer on a regular basis. Smith plans to take an unofficial visit to Miami (Fla.) sometime in August. He also camped at North Carolina in late July.
"I went up to North Carolina once this summer for the Fedora Freak Show camp. It went very well. I caught a couple of interceptions and got better. I got to play for my position coach and to be able to work with him really sealed the deal for me," Smith explained.
While Smith remains committed to the Tar Heels he has been hearing from several programs this summer and plans on evaluating his options.
Smith is planning on taking an unofficial visit to Miami this month and has told Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons last week that he plans to take official visits to Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina and South Carolina this fall and winter.
Smith is very impressed with Miami’s history at the linebacker position.
"It is in Florida but it is a good distance away from Jacksonville and then of course the history of the program and the great Miami players; Ray Lewis, Jon Beason and all those great linebackers. If I could have the opportunity to go to the same school they went too and walk the same hallways hopefully I can be like that," Smith said of his interest in the Hurricanes.
The hard-hitting linebacker also said that he is planning on taking his official visit to Nebraska on the weekend of September 20th which just happens to the weekend the Cornhuskers host Miami in Lincoln.
