Houston Notebook (8/13/14)

Scout.com has had lots of activity in the Midlands region. Today, we look at a few recruiting notes from athletes in the Greater Houston area from last week and the early portions of this current week.

Lockett Headed West
“I'm proud to say that I've committed to UCLA

That was the twitter post made by Manvel defensive back William Lockett. It was only days before that Lockett had named the Bruins, and Missouri as his Top 2, and planned on visiting both. This commitment comes at no surprise as the UCLA staff has been a fixture in landing top players from not only the Lone Star State, but more specifically the Greater Houston area.

Five-Star Top 12
Late last week, Marshall cornerback Kendall Sheffield cut his list of over 30 offers to a Top 12.

Ohio State
Florida State
Oklahoma State
Texas A&M

Not a non power program within the bunch. He has yet to name any official visits at this point, but surely that news will come out sooner than later.

From Bronco to Cowboy
Bush offensive lineman Josh Jones was down to a Top 3, all from the Big 12, as it pertains to his recruitment. And while Texas Tech and TCU were right there, it was Oklahoma State that won out for the services of the three-star lineman. It seems as though a visit to Stillwater is what set the Cowboys apart from the pack of three.

“Through my process I narrowed it down to those schools (OSU, TCU and Texas Tech), and those coaches had stayed in touch and seemed to really want me. Oklahoma State stood out because of coach (Bob) Connelly and when I went up there he had the best talk with me and my parents, he and coach (Mike) Gundy," Jones told Go Pokes’ Robert Allen. "He (Gundy) told me things that I needed to hear from the school. Since that visit they were my number one.”

Jones is the No. 53 player nationally at his position.
