Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star cornerback Iman Marshall has kept the recruiting process at bay for much of the summer, but football is in the air and official visit dates are being discussed.
“I know I’m going to take a Florida State official visit,” said
Marshall. “Notre Dame will get a visit too. I want to sit down with my
dad and get some more visits set, but that hasn’t happened yet.”
LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Michigan are among
the other schools in the running for Marshall’s other three official visits.
No actual dates have been set for Marshall, and his senior season schedule at Poly will dictate when he can fly out of town on Friday nights. Right
now, Jackrabbit football practice is the focal point.
“Poly is back on the road to winning a championship,” said Marshall.
“We have a team that wants to make history, and I want everyone to be
aware of that.”
With so much focus on getting back to a CIF title, Marshall has had
limited time to take unofficial visits this summer. Locally, he hit USC
last Wednesday to take in the Trojans' first scrimmage of fall camp.
“It was a great overall practice as one of their first practices,” said
Marshall. “I saw a lot of young players getting a lot of playing time.
“Ajene Harris, Juju (Smith), Jonathan Lockett… a lot of guys making
plays. It’s good to see them playing a lot of young dudes early.”
Smith, a former Poly standout on both sides of the football is
currently playing wide receiver for USC.
“Juju played really well when I went out for the scrimmage,” said
Marshall. “Victor Blackwell and Chris Hawkins both did well too. Chris
did his thing and got a pick in the scrimmage. There were a lot of guys
making plays - a lot of names I could mention but haven’t.”
Although Smith’s success on offense has surprised some observers at
practice, Marshall saw him carry Poly as a running back, wide receiver
and safety last season.
“Juju is a football player,” said Marshall. “It’s not too much of a
surprise to see him play offense because that’s where is passion is. If
he is out there doing what he has to support the team, that’s the most
While USC freshman standout Adoree Jackson did not participate in the
scrimmage due to a foot injury, Marshall was able to discuss life as a
Trojans with the former five-star on the sidelines.
“They (the freshmen) enjoy their time there,” said Marshall. “That’s
the most important thing we talked about. They just enjoy waking up,
working hard and going to practice.
“That’s important. You have to enjoy doing what you want to do.
That lets you work hard and stay focused.”
Five-star has two official visits in mind
