South: Uncommitted Five-star Update

Last week, five-star defensive tackle Trenton Thompson committed to Georgia. Who could be next? Out of the 11 five-star prospects in the South, four remain uncommitted...

Trenton Thompson committed to Georgia Tuesday, August 12. He was the first five-star prospect out of the South to commit since Calvin Ridley chose Alabama back in April.

We may not have to wait four-plus months for the next elite prospect to pop.

We take a look at the four who are uncommitted.

Martez Ivey | OT | Apopka (Fla.) | No. 4 overall
It will be Auburn or Florida for the top offensive tackle in the country. Ivey visited Florida on his birthday, July 25, then spent time at Auburn with close friend/teammate/Auburn commit, Chandler Cox the following day. Cox definitely helps the Tigers and gives AU something Florida cannot match. This race has gotten tighter over the summer, but Scout still sees Florida as the school Auburn and everyone else is chasing at this time.

CeCe Jefferson | DE | Glen Saint Mary (Fla.) Baker County | No. 5 overall
Florida is the school to beat here. That has been clear for months. Jefferson has visited Alabama, Florida, Florida State, and LSU over the summer. Since becoming an elite recruit, UF has been the school others chase at the top. Alabama looks to be the biggest competition for the defensive end at this time.

Byron Cowart | DE | Seffner (Fla.) Armwood | No. 10 overall
This one could end sooner than later. Cowart has always liked the Florida Gators and he was back at The Swamp early in August. He took a visit to Florida State before that and schools like, Alabama and Oregon are on the list. Cowart could decide in the coming weeks and Florida has the edge. A decision late in August to early September is likely right now.

Daron Payne | DT | Irondale (Ala.) Shades Valley | No. 23 overall
Alabama is the favorite at this time for Payne. It has been for some time. Auburn is in the mix and Florida State and Texas continue to hang around. Payne has visited other schools, but the college town he has spent the most time in is Tuscaloosa. Alabama is considered a strong favorite at this time.
