West '15: Preseason Top Ten Middle LBs

Granite Bay (Calif.) four-star Cameron Smith heads the West's middle linebacker rankings...

1. Cameron Smith, 6-2.5, 235, Granite Bay (Calif.)
Committed to USC

The Skinny: Has stood atop the West middle linebacker rankings, largely because he's one of the best run-stopping inside backers from the West in some time. Dropped a ton of weight in the offseason and flourished on the 7v7 circuit, rounding out his game.

2. Christian Folau, 6-1, 240, Salt Lake City (Utah) East
Committed to Stanford

The Skinny: The LB MVP at the Oregon NFTC, every time we saw Folau this spring and summer, he looked better and better and the best part of his game is still what you see on Friday nights.

3. Khaylan Thomas, 6-2, 210, Etiwanda (Calif.)
Considering Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State and Miami

The Skinny: A physical and athletic linebacker who used the offseason to raise his game in pass coverage and showed a great nose for the football.

4. Anthony Camargo, 6-3, 205, La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat
Considering Boise State, Washington, Washington State and Yale

The Skinny: Few players upped their stock this offseason in the reason like Camargo, who's not just getting done on the field, but in the classroom as well.

5. Lonny Powell, 6-1, 205, Sacramento (Calif.)
Committed to California

The Skinny: A commit to California, Powell is a versatile backer who can play inside or outside and was also getting recruited as a running back.

The Next Five:
6. Will Sedgwick, Laguna Hills (Calif.)- Committed to BYU
7. Jeremiah Ieremia, Hurricane (Utah)
8. Drew Berger, Coeur d'Alene (Idaho)- Committed to Boise State
9. Ben Burr-Kirven, Atherton (Calif.) Sacred Heart Prep
10. Jack Savage, Anaheim (Calif.) Servite
