Malik Jefferson, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound linebacker from Mesquite (TX) Poteet is rated as the No. 2 prospect in the country by Scout.com.
With offers from all of the power players from coast-to-coast in college football his recruitment is one of the most heavily watched.
It was big news when he announced three of his five official visits earlier in the summer, naming Ohio State, Stanford, and UCLA.
When talking to the five-star defender after Poteet's scrimmage on Friday night he had another revelation to reveal which could alter how things do unfold down the stretch.
"Yes, I figured out what I want in a school," Jefferson answered promptly when asked if there were any new developments. "I am looking to play that outside linebacker position."
Seeing how he is rated as the No. 1 outside backer in the country and has played that position most of the time in high school it would be natural to think he holds a lot of offers to play there in college.
Jefferson indicated that was not necessarily the case.
"A lot of people (aren't)," Jefferson explained. "Almost everybody is recruiting me at Mike (middle linebacker). That is what I am trying to figure out. I know UCLA (is recruiting him as an OLB) for sure."
"I just want those schools to know that my position is outside backer and that is what I feel that I should play in college and that is what I feel my skill set is."
"Some schools are recruiting me at Will (weak linebacker) and I have a good idea about these programs and if they get with me and say outside backer, then I will really look in to that," The All-Midlands linebacker continued. "That is a really big deal right now for me."
Jefferson maintains that the three official visits he has set will not be altered or edited at this point in time and he still has plans to be in Columbus (11/1), Palo Alto (11/15) and Los Angeles (11/28).
"Those will stay set and I have two more coming."
As far as the final two visits go Jefferson has them in mind, but the battle is still being fought as his trip list finalizes.
"I think two SEC schools, a Big 12 school and two Pac-12 schools," Jefferson reported before noting he is not ready to name those five programs by name right now.
Jefferson has plans to announce his commitment on December 19.
