Recently, ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with Missouri offer and 2015 LB/Safety prospect Darius Smith 6’2” 194 Florence (AL) about his interest in Missouri. And, he updated us on the current status of his recruitment.
“I was really surprised by the Missouri offer,” said Smith, who identified Missouri Assistant Craig Kuligowski as his primary recruiter. “Missouri is one of my top five schools.”
Smith currently holds offers from Arkansas State, Auburn, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, South Alabama, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, UAB, and Washington State, in addition to Missouri.
Recently, "Dee" Smith identified a narrowed list of schools that includes Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Missouri, and North Carolina State.
“Coach Kuligowski tells me how much they like my footwork and my ability to move around on the field and play any position,” said Smith, who is “pretty close friends” with 2014 Missouri signee Walter Brady. “I have played every position on the defensive side of the ball………………………………………. I played linebacker last year.”
Smith said that he’s played corner and safety, in addition to linebacker and defensive end.
Smith reports a personal best of 4.57 seconds in the 40-yard dash, to go along with a 36” standing vertical, a 4.23-second 5-10-5 shuttle, and maximum lifts of 255 pounds in the bench press, and 435 pounds in the squat.
“I really like Coach Kool,” said Smith, who indicated that lately, he’s been talking to Coach Kuligowski with frequency. “He’s a really cool guy. I like his approach, how he’s been recruiting me.”
Smith said that he intends to visit Missouri following his senior season.
