Winnetonka athlete Marquise Doherty is a three-star prospect that recently just named a final five of Iowa, Kansas State, Louisville, Missouri, and Oregon. The plan is for Doherty to take an official visit to each of the five school schools, but he admitted that it's subject to change.
One of Doherty's official visits has already been scheduled, as he will be in Eugene to see the Ducks from November 22-24. He's also in the middle of setting up dates with the coaching staffs at Louisville and Missouri.
2017 star Djimon Colbert's recruitment hasn't really hit full-steam yet and he is still awaiting his first offer. The most interested programs at this time are Missouri and Kansas.
2-WAY STANDOUT, 2-SPORT STAR
Marquise Doherty shined on both sides of the ball during Winnetonka's 42-14 victory over Lee's Summit North. He rushed for three touchdowns on the night in addition to an interception that he returned for a score as well. That makes seven touchdowns on the season for Doherty in just two weeks, with two of them coming on the defensive end. Some of his football scholarship offers come as a defensive back, and others come as a running back.
Not only does Doherty shine on both the offensive and defensive end of the field on the gridiron, he is very highly thought of on the baseball diamond. The top five list of schools that he established in regards to his recruitment were the five schools that were much more willing to let him play both football and baseball in college.
COLBERT A BUDDING STAR
I saw 2017 defensive standout Djimon Colbert two months ago and he stood out as a top prospect in Missouri for his class at that time. He's on the fast track to realizing that potential as considerable growth was seen in him tonight from the last time I saw him in action.
Colbert is continuing to add height and length, standing at about 6-foot-3 now. The bulk is being added on in a bit slower of a pace, but he definitely projects to be a safety and not a cornerback.
As a cornerback against Lee' Summit North, he was avoided for much of the night. On the lone play he was challenged in the first half, Colbert was locked up in man-to-man coverage with the wideout and came away with an interception while high-pointing the ball. It was a play normally seen from an upperclassmen cornerback, not a sophomore in only his second game of the season.
His recruitment hasn't exploded yet, but it surely will and it's only a matter of time.
