Luther Kirk has one FBS offer and one FCS offer and may start seeing more interest.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder helped Garland (Texas) High School open its 2014 season with a 24-22 home win against Irving MacArthur on Thursday night, when Kirk ran 10 times for 54 yards and completed 7 of 13 passes for 58 yards.
Kirk spent all of his time on offense, but projects to the secondary at the next level.
"DB and athlete," Kirk said in reference to where schools like him. "I have more experience at safety, but I know when I go to camps they say (either defensive back position)."
Kirk said he wants to take an official visit to ULM, but he has not set a date for it.
The Arkansas State interest isn't surprising considering his teammate and classmate, defensive tackle Donovan Ransom, committed in June to Arkansas State.
Kirk was pressed into quarterback duty as a junior in 2013 when a teammate was lost for the year with an injury. He finished his junior campaign with 700 passing yards and 800 rushing yards.
Kirk didn't get a huge number of chances to show off his athleticism Thursday night, but in his 10 carries, he showed an effortless, galloping stride that suggests he could cover a lot of territory at the back end of a defense as a rangy free safety.
Check back with Scout as we track Kirk's progress during his senior year.
