Morris Shines In Victory

Akron Hoban defeated Akron Firestone 24-0 Thursday night in the opening night of football in Ohio. Junior Jonah Morris impressed at both safety and wide receiver for Hoban.

Standing 6-foot-4, and weighing 195-pounds, gets you noticed on the football field, but Akron Hoban junior Jonah Morris has the skill to go with his great size.

Morris stood out at both safety and wide receiver in his team's win. He started at safety last year as a sophomore but this was his first game at wide receiver, and he had two spectacular grabs.

"I'm definitely a better player over last year," Morris stated. "I'm bigger, stronger and faster. I didn't play a down of offense last year, so this was fun playing wide receiver tonight."

"I think I'm a better receiver and I really like offense, but I will do whatever my coaches want me to do," he added. "I think I can get a lot better at receiver as I play the position even more."

Although the 2016 prospect holds no offers, Morris is receiving college interest. He impressed last summer at Ohio State's summer camp.

"My coach just told me that North Carolina, Michigan, Nebraska, Stanford, Florida and Ohio State have asked him about me," he explained. "I don't really have a favorite school, and I'll go play for any school that wants me."

"I was at Ohio State last summer and that was the only camp I made it to," he continued. "I did well there and I'd love to hear more from them. Purdue invited me in for a game, but that's the only school that's asked me to visit."

EVALUATION: Loved this kid as a safety prospect after last season, but watching him play wide receiver Thursday night was eye-opening. Morris is very raw as a receiver, but has the hands and the ball skills to be a great one. When you combine his size and speed, he is a matchup nightmare. Once his film gets out, college interest is going to explode. He also plays basketball, which helps with quickness and athleticism. Will be highly rated in Ohio for 2016.
