Who's in the hunt for Hiers?

Luke Hiers was committed to Kentucky but now he's back on the recruiting market. What teams are in the hunt for this center prospect from Lake Wales, Fla?

Luke Hiers is one of the country’s top center prospects. He will be a four-year starter at Lake Wales and is now playing for Tavaris Johnson. Johnson was the team’s offensive coordinator prior to getting the head coaching job.

“Luke has really stepped it up,” Johnson said. “He’s really challenged himself to be a great player. He’s one of the smartest players and offensive linemen I have ever been around and always been like that. I mean this kid has a high football IQ. Now he’s developing that attitude to complement that. He makes all the line calls and has always done that since I can remember. He’s just playing harder and learning how to finish each play. He’s getting off the ball better and using his hands better. Luke’s always had the quick feet.”

Hiers, now 6-foot-4, 290-pounds, was previously committed to Kentucky.

“I am not sure what happened there, to be honest,” Johnson said. “But he’s not committed to them any longer. I don’t know whether he thought Kentucky was the right fit and I know he wants to play center.

Nebraska is in the hunt. USF and Wisconsin are in the hunt. So is UCF. There are some who think around here that he could end up at Florida. He’s grandfather player there but I think he wants to do his own thing. He wants to show everyone he can do it on his own and earn his own scholarship.”
