Takkarist McKinley is one of the nation's premier JUCO recruits. He's a well built 6-4, 235 pounds and can really run. He signed with California out of high school but didn't qualify and is now at Contra Costa.
"He's a monster, he looks great," CC coach Alonzo Carter said. "He's dealing with a lower body injury right now but he's going to be fine. He's basically unblockable because of his size, speed and motor and he's going to have a huge season for us."
On the recruiting front, McKinley has four trips locked in with one more to go.
"His first visit will be to Missouri (Oct. 11)," Carter said. "Then he'll be at UCLA (Nov. 29) for the Stanford game. Those are the two he'll take during the season. The rest will be after the season and hopefully late since that will mean we're still playing and in a big Bowl game.
"He has Oklahoma set for (Dec. 6) and Arizona State is (Jan. 17). We had to move the ASU trip back to fit our schedule. The last one will be to Oregon, Texas or USC. He's still figuring that out and then has to make the calls to those coaches to let them know what he's doing. That's how we do it here, we don't want coaches to have read things on the internet first, it's more respectful this way so that last one should get locked in pretty soon here."
