Midlands LIVE: Hemphill vs. Westfield
Hemphill Stats vs. Westfield (unofficial): 2 receptions for 57 yards, TD
Strengths: He’s good off the line and has an ability to get open. Hemphill is the type of player who can go into his route and know that he will get open as soon as he comes off the line. And what’s most impressive is that he finds a way to come down with the ball regardless of the coverage. His hands are some of the best in the city.
Breakout Play(s): Both of his catches were in traffic, and both were equally impressive. For this exercise, the 30-yard touchdown will be the point of focus. Hemphill was on a go-route was being covered by two defenders, one underneath and one over the top. From the box, it looked like a throw that would likely be interception because the coverage was solid. But some way, Hemphill split the guys and came away with the ball. Not many receivers would have made that grab.
Overall: There’s a reason that a number of coaches want to get in on Hemphill. Bottom line, he makes plays and there are more than a few times when he is the best athlete on the field, and that includes his teammates on a given night. When a play needs to be made, be it a first down or a score, Hemphill can be trusted in that spot.
