"Ole Miss and Vandy are my top two schools," Givens said."They will be the two deciding schools. I have visited both of them a lot. I have not set up a date to commit, but it will come soon. I am going to take a week to think about it, and I will probably make a decision shortly after that. It will be between those two schools."
The 3-Star offensive tackle had Ole Miss leading over Ohio State a couple months back but Vandy has made a recent surge.
"They have always been it. I just had to get to know their new coaching staff better. I was really close to coach (James) Franklin (who left to Penn State) and his guys. They were really high on my list when he was there but then they left. I had to get connected with the new staff. They started contacting me more this summer. I love their offense. It is that smash mouth football, Stanford style."
Givens has grown close to the Ole Miss staff and feels comfortable around their program.
"I have really liked Ole Miss since the first year they started recruiting me. It is always about family at Ole Miss. They have always made me and my parents feel like family. I also like the players there at Ole Miss and Oxford as well. It feels like home when I am down there. They also have the same offense we run. It would be easy for me to learn. I have a great relationship with coach (Matt) Luke. I feel like I can call him up and talk to him about anything."
What will the final decision be based on?
"I will look at who has the better academic support system and their coaches. That's why I like Ole Miss (because of their coaches). It will be a hard decision, but those two areas will be the biggest factors in my decision."
Coincidently the two finalist play this weekend against one another in his home town. Alex will be there comparing notes.
"I will definitely be there. I will be watching closely. Both have already shown me their depth chart. They both are lacking in tackles. That's one thing that stands out to me about both schools. I want to watch which staff makes in game adjustments to effect the outcome of the game. I was impressed with what the Ole Miss coaches did last week in their game against Boise. That's definitely what I will be watching for."
Nashville Christian is off to a 2-0 start. They are looking to make it 3-0 after Friday's contest against Houston County.
"We won both of our games by blowouts. You play every game like you are playing the best team on your schedule but honestly Houston County is not that good so it will be a hard week of preparation for us. The better competition comes at the end of the schedule. I am really looking forward to that. I love playing against good competition. I just love to win."
Givens has seen his body blow up over the past year. That added size has given him more confidence.
"I was playing at 265 last season and now I am at 290. I feel more athletic. I run better. I am lighter on my feet. One of the biggest things in gaining the thirty pounds since last year is that it has made me more dominate. I am faster, stronger, and more athletic. I just run better, and I am lighter on my feet."
