The Opening Houston Top Five Defensive Performers

HOUSTON, Texas -- Factoring in testing, performance in the drills and in the one-on-ones Scout examines the top five defensive performers at The Opening regional stop in Houston on Saturday.

CB Anthony Cook - Houston (Texas) Lamar

Cook had an amazing performance and punched his ticket to The Opening Finals in July. He has been rated in the Scout Top 50 since its inception for the 2018 recruiting cycle and while that puts him amongst the best in the nation he might still be a little too low in the grand scheme of things. He had a similar performance on Saturday that Jamal Adams did a few years back at the Nike Camp in Dallas that put him on the national radar. He was overpowering receivers at the line of scrimmage and making some wow moments that had all of the camp instructors watching each and every rep that he took. He has offers from schools like AlabamaClemsonOhio State and Texas already on his list in addition to many, many more.

CB Jalen Green - Houston (Texas) Reagan

This was our first chance to see Green in person and we walked away very impressed. He is long and athletic. He can track the balls nicely and has great leaping ability and body control. This is going to be a great class of defensive backs and Green's name deserves to be at the top of the list. We love that he is also a very versatile athlete playing all over the field for his team. He even spends a lot of time under center at quarterback. For his length he was very quick in and out of his breaks and consistent in coverage. He was also not afraid to be physical with receivers. Finished No. 16 overall with a 97.98 Nike+ Rating. Offers have come in from LSUClemson, Penn StateTexas and many more.

CB D'Shawn Jamison - Houston (Texas) Lamar

We absolutely love this guys game. The defensive backfield at Lamar is just sick. Jamison is an absolute ball hawk. He is so quick and agile that he makes up ground in an instant. There were a couple times that I caught myself watching him and forgot that I was even trying to record his reps. His offer list is pretty good, but not long enough. He can play for any program in the country. He is a highlight machine on defense. He finished with  the No. 5 overall Nike+ Rating at 112.50. FloridaMichiganTCU and Texas have offered.

Leon O'Neal - Cypress (Texas) Springs

O'Neal is a physical player on tape, so it was great to get to see him in action during an event like this where he is not in pads. 1+1 = 2, so you can expect that he will add even more to his offer list very soon. He is a Scout 300 prospect, but he should climb higher soon. He played with swagger and confidence and showed that he can close on the football quickly. He had a 99.00 Nike + Rating, which was good for 13th overall. AlabamaBaylorOklahomaTexasTexas A&M and UCLA are a sampling of his offers.

DE Max Wright - Katy (Texas) Taylor

He is a top rated guy so we watched him closely. He was very good in the one-on-one reps that he took. He played out at end and also at defensive tackle. That is interesting because he is exactly the type of guy who could slide around in a defensive front to create mismatches and wreak havoc in the backfield. He is quick off of the ball at 6-foot-5.5, 270 pounds and uses his hands very well.  He has all of the major regional and top schools offering. He recently attended junior day at Alabama
