The Opening Interview with Four-Star DT Keondre Coburn

Scout caught up with Top 100-rated defensive tackle Keondre Coburn to talk about his recruitment at The Opening Houston.

Keondre Coburn, a 6-foot-1, 326-pound defensive tackle plays for a Spring (Texas) Westfield school that is known for producing a great defensive tackle. Names like Ed Oliver and Desmond "Tank" Jackson quickly come to mind.

Well Coburn is next. Well some might say he is right now.

"How our school works, you want to go to the best school then you got to work hard as the best," Coburn said. "Every year there is a top D-tackle and I am blessed to be one of them. Next year there will probably be another one just like me. Our coaches take so much responsibility. They take the time to build us to be the best, so it is just fun to be at Westfield."

Coburn has stacked up 16 scholarship offers and more are continuing to roll in.

"I like Michigan," Coburn said. "I like Michigan a lot. I have not gotten to really speak to them, but I really want to go see them. I like Texas. Texas is like home. Texas A&M, TCU, (and) Oklahoma. Really every school I get is the same thing. I like every school I get. There is no really top right now, it is really every school."

"I want every school, Alabama, LSU might be coming and Ohio State has been coming a little bit."

With the hiring of Tom Herman at UT, Coburn now has a connection on that staff with his old high school coach and current UT assistant coach Corby Meekins.

"It kind of made it even better," Coburn said of his relationship with UT. "He was at UH and I liked UH a lot and now he is at UT (and) I kind of want to play for my coach too."

On Wednesday, Coburn was happy to report his 16th offer from UCLA and it was a big one.

"My favorite school growing up was really UCLA," Coburn explained.
