Most of the four-star prospects across the country hold a ton of offers, began their recruiting process long ago and some even made their college picks.

Then, there is offensive guard prospect Devonte Gordon of Washington (D.C.) Maret.

His first offer, from Virginia, just came in. Penn StateMarylandRutgersMichigan State and Syracuse are just beginning initial contact with Gordon, whose recruitment is about to change.

"I wouldn't say it was frustrating, but I got worried (recruiting interest) wouldn't come," Gordon said. "I just kept working and working and make sure it does come. I don't have any control over it. I just have to put myself in position so coaches can see me. I just had to keep working."

Gordon is 6-foot-6, 275 pounds. He began playing football as a freshman at Maret, but was better known as a basketball player.

"I think I'm quicker than a lot of kids," Gordon said. "I played basketball much of my life. I'm really mobile and I have really good hands from playing basketball as well, so I think that gives me an advantage over a lot of players."

Gordon's only offer is from Virginia, which extended one Wednesday.

"They had been talking to me for a while, and I got a message to give them a call," Gordon said. "I talked with (offensive line) coach (Garett) Taujague and coach (Bronco) Mendenhall, and he offered. I'm really happy and excited.

"I was almost a little worried because it is almost (the end of) my junior year and I was really looking forward to playing college football. I am hoping more will come."
