Wolverines see Herron as another Taco

Michigan offered Louisville (Ky.) Trinity 2019 defensive end Stephen Herron on his Monday visit. He talks about his experience with the coaches and campus here.

The battle for defensive end Stephen Herron is looking like it will be one of the most hard-fought in the 2019 class.

Herron, an athletic edge-rusher from Louisville Trinity, has offers from in-state schools Louisville and Kentucky as well as national names like Ohio StateOregonTennessee and more.

Today, Michigan jumped in, offering him a scholarship after he took a trip up to campus.

"The entire place stood out," he said. "The coaches welcomed me and all the players did as well. The academics and the fact that the team goes to study abroad every year."

Herron had a chance to spend time with head coach Jim Harbaugh as well as the defensive staff, namely defensive coordinator Don Brown and his recruiter, defensive line coach Greg Mattison.

"The coaches were great. Not to say I thought they were grumpy and angry, but they were a lot cooler than I imagined, even though I already knew Coach Mattison."

They specified what they see in him as far as a fit in their defense, a defense that relies on pressure, something he can provide.

"The coaches all explained to me how'd I'd fit into their system. Taco, one of their defensive ends is who I'd resemble within their defense."

Herron says his next visit will be to Tennesse for their junior day next weekend.
