2018 WR Jalen Smith hearing from ACC, AAC and Big Ten programs

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Jalen Smith established himself as Ocean Lakes' top wide receiver last fall and the junior spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Jalen Smith had a strong junior season.

The Ocean Lakes standout has been in contact with multiple schools recently.

"Lately, I've been talking to Temple and Maryland," said the 6-foot-1, 165-pound Smith, who holds offers from Navy and Virginia.

Navy has also remained in constant contact.

"It'd be an honor to serve my country and play football at the same time," Smith said. "My brother also signed there last year, so I'm familiar with the program."

Which school could be next to offer?

"I think it could be Temple," Smith said. "Pennsylvania is my home state and they run a spread offense, which is a good fit for me.

"I've been talking with (assistant) coach (E.J.) Barthel recently and he said they're pretty close to offering. I like coach Barthel and he's always honest with me. He told me he likes my length and that I could play early if I went there."

Although he is enjoying the recruiting process, Smith's main focus is becoming a better player.

"I'm working to get stronger and also trying to add weight," Smith said. "I also want to get faster and improve my ball skills. Honestly, I want to improve in every aspect of my game."

He does not have a timeline for his recruitment.
