The 2018 class out West is shaping up to be a strong one for two-way athletes and one of the best is Jevon Holland.
Holland is a high major prospect at receiver and safety and is a great looking athlete. At 6-1, 170 pounds, Holland is a natural safety who combines great range and field awareness, high level ball skills and instincts. He can cover a ton of ground and always seems to be around the football.
He runs well, plays with toughness and is a playmaker in the return game as well. He has big play potential on either side of the ball but might project highest in the secondary.
On the recruiting front, Holland took an unofficial visit to Cal earlier today and walked away with an offer from the Bears.
"They had been quiet with me for awhile and then recently hit me up," Holland said. "Coach Alexander, the DB coach, invited me up to campus and I really liked it there. He's a great guy, super cool and I like his football mindset. They like me more for defense but I really don't have a preference between the two spots.
"I visited Cal back in 2013 with my brother but it wasn't like this visit. I got to do the whole campus tour, meet the coaches, see the weight room and the facilities and the stadium as well so it was a great visit. I met with Coach Wilcox as well and he's the one who offered me so overall, I had a really good time."
Next up for Holland will be a visit to USC.
"I'm going to visit next Monday, the 20th," Holland said. "I'll be in town for the Adidas 7v7 tournament on Saturday so I'm going to take a visit later that weekend. They haven't offered me yet but hopefully it happens. I'm really excited to get up there and meet with the coaches and see the campus.
"I have two teammates that just signed there, Alijah Vera-Tucker and Je'Quari Godfrey and I'm close with Isaiah Langley as well. I'm talking with UCLA a lot as well and have a good relationship with Angus (McClure), we talk all the time. I don't have any plans to visit there right now but hopefully later on I can, I would love to do that."
Holland said he has no plans to make an early decision right now.
"I want to take all my visits before I commit anywhere," Holland said. "I know I want to visit Arizona, I like them a lot but I don't have anything set up with anyone right now. I'm just going to play things out and see what schools want me before I decide where I want to visit and go from there."
