Commit Analysis

Josh Fleeks, 2017 WR, Cedar Hill (Texas)

Size: 6-0, 167

Recruiting: Fleeks committed Saturday to Baylor, which he chose over offers from Houston, Illinois, Iowa State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, North Texas, SMU, and UCF. New Baylor assistant Joey McGuire no doubt had a big hand in landing Fleeks, who played for McGuire at Cedar Hill High School.

Rankings: Scout ranks Fleeks as the No. 247 overall prospect in the 2018 Scout 300. He's the No. 8 receiver in the state of Texas and the No. 42 receiver nationally for his class.

In his words: "I love it and it's all about family. I really believe in what they are going to be doing at Baylor."

Stats

2016: As a junior, Fleeks enjoyed a breakout season with 53 catches for 663 yards and eight touchdowns, along with 74 rushing yards as he primarily played in the slot for an 11-3 Cedar Hill team that reached the Texas Class 6A D-II state quarterfinals.

Spring 2016: At The Opening Dallas, Fleeks measured 6-foot, 167 pounds with a laser-timed 4.48-second 40.

2015: Fleeks made his varsity debut as a sophomore, when he ran 30 times for 135 yards.

Evaluation notes

Josh Fleeks is a highly athletic prospect who is a true offensive athlete. Fleeks can line up at running back and the slot, where he's dangerous in the vertical passing game and the screen game.

Fleeks owns a laser-timed 4.48 40 and a shuttle of 4.10, so he combines impressive straight-line acceleration and top-end speed with good closer-quarters agility to make defenders miss in space.

Flashes the open-field wiggle to avoid tacklers. Once he plants his foot and goes, he's very difficult to track down from behind. Excellent potential as an all-purpose back who can contribute in the running game, passing game, and special teams as a return threat. Possesses good height (6-0), but will need to add bulk at the next level. Added weight will help his overall strength and ability to pick up blitzes and/or block on the perimeter as needed.

Playing for one of Texas' best programs against excellent competition will help preparation for high-major college football. Overall, Fleeks is an electric offensive weapon who is a true big-play threat every time he touches the ball. -- Gabe Brooks
