Blake Zubovic saw his offer list spike to double digits when Minnesota and Northwestern extended ones within a few hours Wednesday, and it means he will have to add to what looks like a busy few months.
The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Belle Vernon (Pa.) High standout was at Temple on Monday, will be at Pittsburgh on Saturday, travel to Virginia on March 4 and be at West Virginia on March 19. He is also trying to fit in a March visit to Penn State
"I don't really have any leaders right now. It's too early," he said. "I'm excited about every school that offers me. I'm not trying to get too big-headed. It's a real honor when any school offers me, to be honest with you. I'm trying to stay as humble as I can."
Zubovic had a decision to make Saturday because Pitt and Penn State are both hosting recruits.
"I was going to go to Penn State's junior day, but I thought it was my obligation to go to Pitt's because they already offered me," he said. "I'm trying to reschedule for sometime in March to go see Penn State because I'd like to visit there as well. They said they have interest, but they haven't pulled the trigger on me yet (with an offer).
"I lot of WPIAL kids go there, and I would like to compare it to some of the other local schools."
Penn State offensive line coach Matt Limegrover is Zubovic's main recruiter.
"He told me he really wants to get me out there," Zubovic said. "He loves my film and the way I play, but he really wants to get me on campus and meet me first before we talk about an offer. He wants to see what kind of person I am. Everything he heard was good about me, but he wants to meet me first before he makes any types of those decisions."
West Virginia is familiar to Zubovic because it is 40 minutes from his home, and his dad went to school there. The also attended games there when Blake was growing up.
"I know about the long history of winning in West Virginia, as well as the fans and the football team," he said. "They are always energetic. There is always a lot of energy around that program. The fans and the football players and the coaches all love their football down there."
When a school like Minnesota offers, Zubovic said one of the first things he does in his down time is research the program.
"I have to google them," he said. "I grew up around the Pittsburgh area so there is a lot of teams I watched, and most of the teams I watched are in the ACC. I would have to research them, but I'm definitely excited about the offer and I am looking to go visit them sometime this spring."
On the other side of that is Pittsburgh, a place Zubiovic is well versed in.
"I know them pretty well just from growing up in the Pittsburgh area and being a fan of their team and following the team," he said. "I follow recruiting and I know more about Pitt than the rest of the college programs, but that is just me growing up in the area."
