South Carolina, NC State among those showing early interest in 2019 DE Savion Jackson

Clayton (N.C.) sophomore defensive end Savion Jackson had a sensational season last fall. He recently picked up his first scholarship offer and spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Savion Jackson had a breakout season last fall.

Earlier this week, South Carolina became the first school to offer.

"It was a great feeling and I'm very excited," said the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Jackson, who is also being recruited by DukeNC State and Charlotte. "(Defensive line) coach (Lance) Thompson offered me and he really believes in me. We talked for a while about the program and he said I'd be a good fit.

"A bunch of people have told me that he's a very good coach. He's told me that they have a strong program and that most of the guys on their defense get drafted."

His most recent visit was NC State a few weeks ago for junior day.

"I feel like they're very interested" Jackson said. "It was a great visit and it's a nice place. I was also able to meet a lot of the coaches and they're cool. I'd say my favorite part of the visit was seeing the locker room and trying on all the equipment. I also enjoyed seeing the campus and getting a feel for the environment.

"I spent the most time with new defensive line coach Kevin Patrick. It was my first time meeting him and I really like him. We connected well. He told me he watched my film and that he likes the way I play. I'm looking forward to continuing to develop a relationship with him.

"I also had a chance to speak to coach (Dave) Doeren for a couple of minutes. We just talked about the junior day and he asked how I liked everything. It definitely meant a lot that he took the time to speak to me."

Jackson will visit South Carolina Saturday and Charlotte this spring.

He finished last season with 51 tackles, including 19.5 for loss and seven sacks.
