Jayde Pierre

Lengthy list of ACC and Big Ten schools showing interest in 2018 DT Jayde Pierre

Sterling (Va.) Dominion defensive tackle Jayde Piere was an anchor for his team's defense last year and his recruitment is picking up steam.

Jayde Pierre helped lead his team to a 10-3 season last fall.

Recently, he picked up an offer from Purdue.

"I don't know a ton about Purdue, but I have a great relationship with (defensive backs) coach (Anthony) Poindexter," said the 6-foot-1, 295-pound Pierre. "I'm looking forward to learning more about the program."

Along with Boilermakers, Maryland and Virginia have offered. Others showing interest include DukeWake ForestBoston CollegeTempleVanderbiltRutgers and NC State.

One of his next visits will be Maryland.

"They've told me I can come visit anytime -- just text the coaches," Pierre said. "I'm looking forward seeing how they do things and watching them practice.

"I definitely like the uniforms at Maryland. But I've gotten to meet everyone, so it's much more that the uniforms. They have a family atmosphere and they are interested in what's best for you.

"The coaches I've talked to the most are (offensive coordinator) coach (Walt) Bell and (defensive coordinator) coach (Andy) Buh. I like how they want to get to know me as a player, student and person."

He also plans to take a trip to Wake Forest this spring.

"I just spoke with (offensive line) coach (Nick) Tabacca and I'm hoping we can continue to develop a relationship," Pierre said.

"I actually spoke with him for the first time yesterday, so he hasn't really gone into detail about the program and school, but I'm excited to learn more about Wake Forest. I want to meet all the coaches and get a better understanding of their program.

"Any offer is a blessing, but an offer from Wake Forest would be awesome. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting."

Besides the aforementioned schools, Pierre hopes to get to Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech this spring.
