Kentucky offered four-star center Tyrone Sampson this week and he quickly set up a visit to Lexington. Sampson, along with a big crew of fellow Michiganders, were on campus on Saturday and had a chance to see campus, facilities and a basketball game.
"The experience at UK was great," Sampson said. "It was unbelievable. The new facilities are really nice."
Sampson had a relationship with area recruiter Steve Clinkscale already, but the visit allowed him to meet more of the staff including his position coach.
"The coaches are real good guys I met with their offensive coordinator (Eddie Gran) and their head coach (Mark Stoops) and the offensive line coach (John Schlarman), they just said they were really excited about me."
"The Minnesota offer means a lot because Coach Fleck was really nice at Western and I had a good relationship with him at Western, now it's time to build one at Minnesota."
Sampson was not certain when he would visit the Gophers yet, but planning a trip is in the works.
He does not have a favorite yet, but the Wildcats made a big move this weekend.
"Kentucky is high on my list now," he said.
