Mangham says MSU "felt like family"

Detroit Cass Tech sophomore running back Jaren Mangham was offered by Michigan State on Sunday and says the atmosphere there made him feel like it was a family.

Michigan State has extended a handful of in-state offers in the 2019 class now, and Detroit Cass Tech's Jaren Mangham, fresh off an MVP performance at the Best of the Midwest Combine, was the most recent recipient of one when he visited East Lansing on Sunday.

"My dad and [offensive line coach Mark Staten] have known each other for years," Mangham said. "They met back in 1988 at an All-Star game and it took off from there."

Mangham is a big back (6-2, 212 pounds) and played a big role on Cass Tech's varsity, which won a state title a year ago. His size and style make him a classic Michigan State style back.

"Coach Dantonio loved how I was a very physical runner, and how my feet were between holes."

Mangham has a good handful of other offers including recently Indiana and Mississippi State, but Michigan State is clearly one of the top schools in the race at this early point in time.

"What stood out was the coaching staff and the atmosphere, it felt like family."

Mangham says a host of other programs are in contact and he hopes to visit them all over the next few months. That list includes Clemson, Wisconsin, Illinois, Penn State, Oregon, Miami (Ohio), Florida State, Alabama, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, SMU, TCU and Ohio State.
