Ronnie Hickman, one of the top athletes in the East's 2019 class, already built a solid relationship with Penn State assistant coach Ricky Rahne, but he wanted to get a better understanding what the whole staff was like.

He got that Saturday, and the Wayne (N.J.) DePaul standout said his lasting memory of his visit to Penn State was the coaching staff.

"Going in, I didn't really know much of the coaching staff besides coach (Ricky) Rahne," said the 6-foot-1, 200-pound Hickman. "He's the one who talks to me on the phone. I would say the coaching staff really stood out to me the most."

Hickman is being recruited by most schools, including Penn State, to play safety. His offer list includes the Nittany Lions, Rutgers (he visited in late January), Boston CollegeMarylandMichigan and Wisconsin. He is planning a spring visit to Ohio State.

In visiting Penn State, the day provided Hickman with a chance to sit with safeties coach Tim Banks, and the two hit it off.

"I actually spent the majority of the day with him," Hickman said. "That is one of the coaches I talked to the most. He's a great guy. That was my first time meeting him and we spent a lot of time together.

"He's a very cool guy. He's really down to earth. In the meetings, he showed me what he expects from players when they come in as freshmen. He showed me how they teach and we watched a couple of films from the past season."

The day also included the requisite tours.

"We met with the coaching staff and then toured the stadium," Hickman said. "After that, we went to the locker room and then the weight room. They talked about the school, they showed us highlights and after that we went outside on the field and saw some equipment and tried on jerseys."
