The above video features junior season highlights of 2018 edge defender Joseph Ossai.
Joseph Ossai, 2018 DE, Conroe (Texas) Oak Ridge
- Height: 6-4
- Weight: 217
- Recruiting: Ossai has emerged during the past two months as one of the most heavily-recruited players in Texas for the 2018 class. Ossai's offer list is approaching 30 schools and almost 20 Power Five conference offers, including Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas, TCU, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and plenty of others. Ossai attended Texas junior day Feb. 25 and has also recently visited Texas A&M and Houston.
2016: Ossai enjoyed a breakout junior season with 46 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 8 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
Joseph Ossai is a long-framed, athletic edge defender who could play 4-3 defensive end or odd-front hybrid outside linebacker at the Power Five conference level.
Ossai possesses a terrific frame to add weight and he flashes a quick get-off. He has fast, violent hands that will be even more useful as he improves his pass-rushing repertoire.
Accustomed to playing with a hand on the ground, Ossai will likely be athletic enough at the point of attack to play a standing edge rusher role in the right defensive scheme. That said, his frame possesses so much space to add weight that he may remain at end for a four-man front in college.
While Ossai's height and length are excellent, he's a bit narrow and will need to add that aforementioned bulk to gain strength as he transitions to the P5 level. Overall, Ossai is one of the top edge-bending defensive prospects in Texas for the 2018 class. - Gabe Brooks
