Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage defensive Joe Kane's recruitment continues to surge and he gave Scout the latest.

Joe Kane was unblockable last fall.

He totaled 85 tackles, including 47.5 for loss and 19.5 sacks.

Last weekend, Kane visited Appalachian State and they became the latest school to offer.

"For starters, I'm really appreciative of them showing such great hospitality," said the 6-foot-2, 265-pound Kane. "Going up and watching their spring practice and receiving an offer really meant a lot. It's my first in-state offer and a great one to get. They also win a lot of games -- back-to-back bowls for example.

"The coaching staff is great and I've established a great relationship with them. On the visit, I spent the most time with (defensive line) coach (Mark) Ivey and (defensive coordinator) coach (Nate) Woody. Both of them said I could bring a lot to their defensive line. They told me I'd fit perfectly into what they're trying to do on defense.

"Both are intense and honest. They would both do anything to make anyone better. They also build strong relationships with players. I'm not sure when I'll visit again, but I definitely will. There's a chance my high school team will go to their team camp this summer."

Along with the Mountaineers, Georgia SouthernGeorgia State and Wofford have offered, while East CarolinaCharlotteMarylandDuke and South Carolina are also showing interest.

According to Kane, East Carolina could be close to offering.

"They play in a great conference and it's close to home," Kane said. "They also have the majors I'm looking for and the atmosphere is great.

"(Offensive line) coach (Geep) Wade is recruiting me and he's a great coach. He likes to get to know the guys he's recruiting. He said he's fired up about me as a player.

"An offer to play is great, but an offer from them would be big because of what they offer football-wise and academically."

Kane hopes to visit Charlotte, East Carolina, Georgia Southern and Georgia State in the near future.
