RB Trent Pennix's scholarship list includes ACC, Big Ten programs

Raleigh (N.C.) Sanderson running back Trent Pennix is one of the hottest prospects in the state and spoke with Scout about his recruitment.

Over the past few months, running back Trent Pennix's recruitment has exploded.

His scholarship list has reached ten and includes Appalachian StateBoston CollegeEast CarolinaMaryland and Minnesota among others. DukeNorth CarolinaNC StateWake Forest and Louisville are also recruiting him.

According to Pennix, one school is showing the most interest.

"Minnesota is recruiting me hardest and that means so much to me because they make me feel like I will be a huge part of their football program," said the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Pennix.

"I've been talking to head coach P.J. Fleck and our relationship is growing more each day. I'm going to visit soon, but I don't have a date yet."

His most recent visit was this past Sunday.

"I just visited NC State," Pennix said. "I went to watch their spring practice and my favorite part was talking to head coach Dave Doeren.

"I also spent a lot of time talking with (running backs) coach (Desmond) Kitchings. He just asked how I was doing and showed me around the facilities."

What is next for the Sanderson standout?

"I'm visiting Maryland soon, but I don't have a date," Pennix said. "They're in the Big Ten, which is a great conference. The team also really enjoys each other and has a lot of fun.

"I'm looking forward to meeting the whole coaching staff, watching them practice and getting a feel for the program. I've been talking to (tight ends) coach (Pete) Lembo and I like how he's very engaging."

Where is he in the recruiting process.

"I don't have any top schools yet," Pennix said. "I'm still evaluating all of them. I plan on making my college decision after my senior season."

He finished his junior season with 1,215 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns and 255 yards receiving and two more scores.
