Wake Forest lands in-state OT Mike Edwards

Wake Forest secured a huge commitment moments ago from Hope Mills (N.C.) South View offensive tackle Mike Edwards and he spoke with Scout following his announcement.

Mike Edwards has committed to Wake Forest.

The talented offensive lineman is happy with his decision.

"I feel really good about the decision I made," said the 6-foot-6, 325-pound Edwards, who chose the Demon Deacons over scholarship offers from LouisvilleMarylandNC StateNorth CarolinaVirginia and Virginia Tech among others. "It's a really good program and it's also not far from home. I just feel it's the best fit for me."


The Demon Deacons' coaching staff played a pivotal part in his decision.

"The played a big role in my decision," Edwards said. "They always stay in touch and I feel like they can help me get to the next level.

"They also care about me not only a player, but a person. They treat me like family and make me feel comfortable."

The South View standout is excited about playing for head coach Dave Clawson.

"He's changed the program and is doing a great job," Edwards said. "I like his his enthusiasm and energy.

"I really feel like he's got the program going in the right direction and I'm excited about having the opportunity to play for him."

Edwards joins Cornelius (N.C.) Hough quarterback Sam Hartman and Florence (S.C.) Wilson safety Zion Keith in Wake Forest's 2018 recruiting class.
