Two years ago, current Nebraska QB Patrick O'Brien was an unknown prospect until earning QB MVP honors at The Opening Regional Camp in L.A and his recruitment would take off shortly after. A year ago, Chase Garbers saw his recruitment blow up after several strong Spring performances.
In the 2018 class, J.T. Shrout is a player who has impressed at multiple events and is a really good looking pocket passer. Mechanically, he looks tremendous with a nice, tight release and a smooth throwing motion that he's able to repeat. He has a prototype QB frame and can throw with touch and accuracy.
The difference between Shrout and O'Brien/Garbers is he didn't start as a junior and doesn't have the game film to back up his impressive off-season performances. Saying that, we still expect Shrout to create a nice buzz for himself in the Spring/Summer when colleges are able to see him throw in person and his stock should rise over the coming months.
On the recruiting front, Shrout is hearing from a few schools including Indiana, Pittsburgh, Washington State and has an offer from Weber State. He'll check out all of those schools along with Boise State over the summer.
