A Preview of Defensive Prospects at The Opening Dallas

Scout examines some of the highest rated names who will appear on the defensive side of the ball at The Opening Dallas.

Defensive Line

Invading the Lone Star State will be two Scout 300 prospects from the Sooner State in Ron Tatum (Putnam City, Okla.) and Jalen Redmond (Midwest City, Okla.). Tatum is a strong and powerful defender who could play up and down the front and Redmond is an edge-bender who blew up after stepping off of the hardwood and concentrating on football.

The next highest rated player up front is going to be another out of stater in Cameron Latu (Olympus, Utah) a four-star 6-foot-5, 230-pounder. Latu was at one time committed to BYU, but is now picking up coast-to-coast offers as he is back on the market.

Class of 2019 DT Lloyd Murray (Hirschi, Texas) is going to catch a lot of attention. He has been picking up major offers, but is fresh off of his commitment to sign with Florida State

There will not be any players at the event who pass the eye ball test like Scout 100 linebacker Alston Orji (Rockwall, Texas). Orji is a great talent on the field and a tremendous person off the field as well. There is no reason to wonder why he has a great offer list.

Two Scout 300 prospects will be in the spotlight in Bumper Pool (Lovejoy, Texas) and Byron Hobbs (Eastern Hills, Texas). Pool is a middle linebacker who is committed to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks ad Hobbs is a wepaon on the edge with offers from schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and TCU.

A sleeper linebacker duo to watch is Nick Bolton (Frisco Lone Star, Texas) and Cameron Wilkins (Del Valle, Texas).

Defensive Backs

The defensive back position is loaded with talent and it will feature a quartet of Scout Top 100 safeties in Atanza Vongor (South Grand Prairie, Texas), Caden Sterns (Cibolo Steele, Texas), DeMarvion Overshown (Arp, Texas) and Josh Proctor (Owasso, Texas). Sterns is the only prospect who comes into the event committed as he has made his verbal to the SEC and LSU.

DeSoto (Texas) High will be sending a duo of Scout 300 cornerback prospects in Gemon Green and Byron Hanspard II. Green added an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners and Hanspard II is the son of former Texas Tech Red Raiders great of the same name. They both played a huge role in helping the football team to its first ever state title in 2016. The defensive bacfield will be even better for the Eagles in 2017 as it will feature the return of Gemon's twin brother German Green who is closing in on 100% following an ACL injury.

CB Verone McKinley III (Hebron, Texas) has an offer list that has frown to 30 offers and it will be fun to watch Class of 2020 CB R.J. Mickens (Southlake Carroll, Texas) work out at the event. R.J. has been adding impressive offers to his growing list like Georgia, Nebraska, OklahomaOklahoma State, and UCLA.
