Illinois DE Perrion Winfrey has first offer

One offer is in for Roselle (Ill.) Lake Park defensive end Perrion Winfrey, a nice-sized prospect who has a host of other big time programs coming after him.

Lake Park High School has produced its share of college level defensive linemen over the last few seasons, and in the 2018 class, defensive end Perrion Winfrey is drawing a good amount of interest.

Recently, Wyoming, a school that has been recruiting Illinois hard, became the first program to offer the 6-foot-4, 250-pound Winfrey.

"It was very exciting when I got my first offer," he said. "I couldn't stop smiling. It felt great finally getting that phone call after trying to get myself back on track after last year's football season."

Getting to Laramie is something Winfrey hopes to do.

"I would love to take a visit, me and [safeties coach Jake] Dickert will be speaking on the phone later tonight and I'm sure that will be one of the topics of discussion."

Winfrey says there are many other colleges who are showing interest, but have not yet offered him a scholarship. They included Arkansas in the SEC, Louisville in the ACC, IndianaIowaIllinois and Northwestern in the Big Ten, Iowa State in the Big 12 Central MichiganNorthern Illinois and Ball State in the MAC and a number of FCS programs.

He hopes to get to see some of those schools in person soon.

"I'm planning visits out with my family at the moment," he said.
