Tony St. Julien has emerged in the past several weeks as possibly one of the state of Louisiana's top prospects in the 2018 class.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound St. Julien has picked up a hand full of offers from Louisiana Tech, ULL, ULM, UTSA, and Tulane. He's also heard from programs such as LSU, TCU, and Ole Miss, St. Julien told Scout at this past weekend's The Opening Dallas regional camp.
"Coach O He told me to call him yesterday," St. Julien said Sunday afternoon. "Their new running backs coach (Tommie Robinson), too. And my recruiter from there is coach (Jeff) Grimes."
St. Julien attended the recent "Boys From The Boot" recruiting event at LSU.
"It was good," he said. "Their facilities were good, their coaches were real cool. Everybody there was cool."
St. Julien plays for Vinton High School near Lake Charles on the Louisiana-Texas border. Unsurprisingly, he said if the home-state Tigers were to offer, that would be a major option for him.
As noted above, TCU and Ole Miss are programs St. Julien from which he has just started getting interest. He hopes he can check out both campuses at some point this spring.
At Sunday's camp, St. Julien ran a laser-timed 4.45 40, which is the best time of the more than 400 athletes who competed. His Nike Football Rating of 117.09 was the fifth-best at the event. St. Julien worked out with the receivers, but has gotten more recruiting attention as a running back, which is his primary position for Vinton High.
That said, he is potentially position-versatile in college; he could play running back, receiver, or safety.
As a junior this past fall, St. Julien ran for 1,078 yards and 11 touchdowns on 9.4 yards per carry. That came after a breakout sophomore year in 2015, when he ran for 1,665 yards and 19 scores on an eye-opening 11.4 yards per tote.
What's St. Julien working on this offseason?
"Speed training," he said. "I'm being recruited mostly as a running back, so I'm gonna be working on running back drills and all that stuff."
Stick with Scout as we continue to monitor St. Julien's recruitment this spring.
