2018 Edge Defender Dekalen Goodson Emerging as Power Five-Caliber Pass-Rusher

FRISCO, Texas -- With three FBS under his belt, pass-rushing East Texas prospect Dekalen Goodson could be in for a big spring. Scout caught up with him at The Opening Dallas regional camp for an update.

As high-production defender from one of East Texas' most storied football programs, 2018 pass-rusher DeKalen Goodson will have plenty of college coaches giving him attention this offseason.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Goodson already has offers from Mississippi StateTexas State, and ULL, and he'll get more in the coming weeks and months. The long-armed, athletic edge-bender told Scout at this past weekend's The Opening Dallas that there are a few schools he wants to see this spring that he hasn't visited yet.

"I wanna check out Texas A&M, maybe Oklahoma State," Goodson said, "and TCU probably."

Goodson has already visited Texas for the Longhorns' recent junior day. Goodson plays with a hand on the ground for John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas, but he's mostly being recruited as a standing edge rusher at the next level.

"Getting stronger and bigger, and working on my pass rush," Goodson noted as what he's working on this offseason. "That's pretty much it."

Goodson's Mississippi State offer came last spring, long before the Texas State and ULL offers, which arrived in the past couple of weeks. Texas State offered Goodson after a junior day visit.

"I went to their junior day, and at the end of the day they offered me," Goodson said. "They like how I'm long and how I can play that outside position for pass-rushing."

ULL is one of the few schools that wants Goodson to play with a hand on the ground.

"I kinda prefer standing up," Goodson said. "I haven't done standing up yet (in high school), but I know what it's like."

Goodson's frame will allow him to add a lot of positive weight once he's in college. He's much longer-armed than your average 6-foot-2, 205-pound edge defender.

As a junior this past fall, Goodson put up big numbers, recording 70 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and five quarterback pressures.

Stick with Scout as we continue to track Goodson's recruiting emergence this offseason.
