The car ride home was certainly filled with joy and accomplishment.

When Rutgers invited class of 2019 dual-threat quarterback Taquan Roberson to campus for a personalized Thursday visit, leaving with his first offer was never in his mind.

However, when the Wayne (N.J.) DePaul standout and his dad pulled away from the Hale Center, the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Roberson had his first offer. And a case of the smiles.

"It was really exciting," Roberson said. "There was nothing but smiles in the car. Just happiness."

Roberson, who also made a recent visit to Penn State, was offered during a meeting with offensive coordiantor Jerry Kill.

"He said he was offering me after he was watching my film," Roberson said. "He said I was an outstanding quarterback. He's a great person and he's very understanding. He is very easy to talk to."

This was not Roberson's first visit to Rutgers this offseason. He was at a junior day in late January, and he plans to return for a spring practice.

During this trip, he met with several members of the coaching staff, spoke to some of the players and got some time with coach Chris Ash.

"He told me right now they are rebuilding and he agreed with the offer because he said it starts with a young quarterback that is going to help rebuild the new Rutgers football program," Roberson said. "He said it would be great for me to come because I will recruit a lot of other athletes."

As a sophomore, Roberson completed 87 of 172 passes for 1,174 yards, nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also ran for 365 yards and two touchdowns.
