Keyondre White, a three-star tailback that's stacked up double-digit scholarship offers throughout his prep career at Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, has opted to exit the Sunshine State to play out his collegiate years with Akron, who served up an offer less than three days ago.
A 5-foot-10, 210-pound junior that accumulated 658 yards on 55 carries last season, White claims additional verbal offers from Illinois, Syracuse, Louisville, South Florida, Florida Atlantic and Bowling Green among others.
"First off, I always wanted to play in the Big Ten or MAC," White told Scout. "Throughout this process, (running backs) coach (Eric) Hickson has been a great help with informing me about Akron and the history on Akron.
"I feel like I would be coming into a good situation and probably have an impact as an incoming freshman. I've seen what Jay Ajayi did in the MAC, and I'm hoping to do the same. I'm thankful for this opportunity."
White is a hard-nosed runner that certainly does a good job of utilizing his size. White is tenacious with his ability to lower his shoulder, and literally throws and shakes defenders off his frame. He is not a blazer, but gets his pads north and south and runs with good balance.
White is also fairly agile and makes strong cuts for a tailback of his stature, but it's his balance and physical brand between the tackles that's catapulted him into the position he's in today.
"Akron can expect great physicality, a smart player, and some South Florida talent," White added.
White admits that he still has to journey up to the Midwest to view Akron's surroundings with his own eyes, but hopes to take that next step sooner rather than later.
"I will try to get up there in the summer," White said. "If not, then I will get up there during the season. I've seen pictures of the campus and it looks great."
As always, stay tuned to Scout.
