Midwest Recruiting Notebook

Several new commitments in the Midwest along with notes on recent and upcoming visits.

RECENT COMMITMENTS

Northwestern had a significant start to the weekend on Friday when the Wildcats landed two in-state commitments, defensive end Devin O'Rourke and tight end Brian Kaiser. O'Rourke is a four-star, Scout 300 prospect with a big frame and agility for a kid of that size. We believe he will grow into a strongside guy and may have a similar growth trajectory as former Wildcat and current Green Bay Packer Dean Lowry. In Kaiser, the Wildcats get a 6-foot-7 kid who shows a range of athletic abilities on film. He can run after the catch and go up and get the ball. He is going to fill in his frame and make for quite the matchup issue in our opinion.

The Wildcats now have five commitments in the 2017 class. With new facilities on the way and not just any old facilities but ones several high school and college coaches have called "game changers," on the way, look out for Northwestern.

 - Kentucky continues to recruit Ohio very well and received a commitment from Cincinnati Moeller tight end Brenden Bates. Bates is a great sized kid who moved around the formation quite a bit for Moeller last season. He will likely grow into more of an on the ball guy, but can certainly move off the line of scrimmage as well. The Wildcats got him over offers from Louisville, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Maryland, Cincinnati and others.

NEWS AND NOTES

- The Miami RedHawks held a junior day over the weekend which proved to be quite successful. Several new offers were extended there. Several in-state prospects -- defensive tackle Elijah Ratliff, wide receiver Jalen Hooks, defensive back Darnell Shields and safety Kevin Brewer -- received offers as well as Indianapolis Ben Davis' Reese Taylor and Elijah Ball. One of the top 2019 prospects in Michigan, Spencer Brown, received an offer. One of Ohio's top 2019 prospects, defensive lineman Steven Faucheux was offered as well. A number of out of region prospects from the southeast and east were offered as well.

 - Four-star tight end Luke Ford is hitting the road now that basketball is finished. He visited Illinois over the weekend before spending two days at Arkansas. He heads to Georgia tomorrow. He also recently added a Louisville offer.

 - Zach Mueller, an offensive lineman from D.C. Everest in Wisconsin, will visit Michigan State on March 17 and 18.
