It's been an offseason to remember for one of the up-and-coming defensive ends out of the Sunshine State in Parker Devine, who's captured close to a dozen scholarship offers over the past three weeks, including ones from Kentucky and Boston College.
Devine, a 6-foot-3, 245-pound junior out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail, racked up 45 tackles (22 solo), six sacks and a forced fumble in 2016.
"Well, I have always wanted to play college football, but I never thought I would have the opportunity to play for SEC, ACC and other big-name teams," Devine said. "It really is just like childhood dreams turning into realities."
Devine is keeping that door open with a flurry of additional schools expected to send out offers sooner than later, but dishes out the two schools currently soaking up his full attention.
"I don't have a definite top school, but I'm really interested in Kentucky and Boston College," Devine said. "I think both of them have great facilities, and they're both really good schools."
It was back in mid-February when Kentucky, who recently played host on a visit as well, catapulted Devine's recruitment to a whole other level by serving up the initial offer on the Power Five level.
"UK was crazy and their facilities were top-of-the-line. I could see myself fitting into their defense," Devine said. "I really liked (defensive coordinator) coach (Matt) House and (defensive line) coach (Derrick) LeBlanc. I didn't really see much of the campus, but I liked what I saw.
"I was really impressed by the weight room and practice facilities. Hopefully on my next visit I can see more of the campus."
Parker has to continue to do his research on coach Steve Addazio's program at Boston College, but plans to get a taste of their campus atmosphere by the end of spring.
"I don't know much besides that they're a really good academic school," Devine said. "The coaches think I would fit perfectly at end and have a chance to play early on.
"I don't know much about their facilities, but I'm making a trip sometime this spring."
As always, stay tuned to Scout for the latest developments in Devine's recruitment.
