2019 DE Hakeem Beamon fielding interest from ACC and Big Ten

Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird defensive end Hakeem Beamon is one of the top 2019 prospects in the state and spoke with Scout about the latest developments with his recruitment.

Hakeem Beamon was a standout on both sides of the ball for L.C. Bird last year.

Then 6-foot-4, 240-pound Beamon has scholarship offers from North Carolina and Virginia TechVirginiaClemsonNC State and Penn State are also showing significant interest.

According to Beamon, North Carolina is recruiting him hardest.

"It definitely means a lot that they're showing so much interest," Beamon said. "I love the campus and I like the coaches a lot. I really like the school and it's really nice down there.

"I actually visited about a month ago for one of their junior days. I learned about their defense and the upcoming renovations to the facilities. But my favorite part was learning about the academics. I'm going back for the Freak Show this summer.

"I spent the most time with (defensive coordinator) coach (John) Papuchis and he basically told me to keep working hard in the classroom. He also told me to stay contact. He's cool and honest guy."

His next visit will be to NC State.

"I'm going down there on April 1," Beamon said. "I haven't visited before, so I'm looking forward to the trip.  I want to see the campus and environment. My teammate Isaiah Moore signed with them in February and has told me about the school, though. He said it's a great school and that they're doing a great job with the program."

"I've stayed in contact with (cornerbacks) coach (George) Barlow and we're developing a good relationship. He always wants to know how I'm doing. He's cool and doing a good job recruiting."

As for the summer, Beamon plans to camp at North Carolina, NC State, Clemson and Virginia Tech.
