ACC and SEC powerhouses pursuing 2019 DE Joseph Anderson

Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Siegel defensive end Joseph Anderson is one of the top 2019 defensive ends in the country and spoke with Scout about the latest developments in his recruitment.

Joseph Anderson was dominant last fall.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound sophomore established himself as one of the premier defensive ends in the 2019 class and his scholarship list is well into double digits.

One of the most recent schools to offer was Notre Dame.

"They obviously have great tradition and it's a prestigious school," Anderson said. "It's a school where everyone would love to play and it's just an honor to have that scholarship offer.

"I've spoken to (linebackers) coach (Clark) Lea and he's a great guy and always honest. He's told me all about the history and tradition of Notre Dame. He said they're committed to winning national championships and that everyone who comes to Notre Dame has to be also.

"I'm visiting on April 2. I want to see how I fit in and if it feels like home. I want to learn more about the school academically. And I want to see the facilities and get to know the coaching staff."

Along with the Irish, Anderson's has offers from GeorgiaGeorgia TechLouisvilleLSUMississippiMississippi StateNorth CarolinaSouth Carolina and Tennessee among others.

His last visit was to Louisville earlier this month.

"It was a good visit and I really like the school," Anderson said. "I was impressed by the expectations they have for their players -- on and off the field. They really emphasized academics.

"I had a chance to see all the football facilities and the dorms, but didn't get to see the campus. I also went to a basketball game. I really enjoyed being there.

"I spent the most time with (defensive coordinator) coach (Peter) Sirmon. He told me he wanted me to come play for him. He also talked about how he has high expectations for his players. He was very honest the entire time. I'll definitely visit again at some point."

Besides Notre Dame, he does not have any other trips scheduled.
