Los Angeles Opening Regional - Top Ten Surprise Performers

Several players came in to the Nike Opening Regional Camp in L.A with big names and reputations and most lived up to their advance billing. Here’s a look at 10 players who aren’t as well known but showed they belong on the big stage as well.

You can call this list a surprise team or even an ‘All Revelation Team’ might be more appropriate. These are all players we knew about coming in and knew they could play or they would have never been invited to the camp in the first place.

Saying that, these are prospects that are either flying below the radar or just aren’t getting as much attention as their talent deserves. Based solely on how they did on Sunday, here’s our look at 15 players who opened our eyes and showed next level talent and potential.

Players are listed in alphabetical order:

The Top 10:

Lance Babb, WR, Montebellow (Calif.) Schurr

Strong, physical receiver who really catches the ball well in traffic.

Camm Cooper, QB, Lehi (Utah)

The strong armed lefty impresses us more and more every time out.

Jaden Dedman, DB, Upland (Calif.)

We love his ability to cover without having to clutch and grab, very instinctive corner.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Los Angeles (Calif.) Jefferson

Big 6-3 kid who can run and caught everything thrown near him.

Jacob Isaia, OL, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman

Continues to add size, while maintaining his high level athleticism

Jamarye Joiner, QB, Vail (Ariz.) Cienega

Arizona commit is hardly a sleeper but throws the rock much better than given credit for.

Chris Mitchell, DB, Mission Viejo (Calif.)

Big time athlete who shows the ability to play anywhere in the secondary

Richard Newton, RB, Palmdale (Calif.)

Was runner up for RB MVP, great hips and shows plenty of shake and wiggle.

C.J. Parks, WR, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei

All he does is make plays and catches the ball as well as anyone.

Mason Quandt, QB, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon

Strong armed signal caller showed very good accuracy and timing.

Five More Who Impressed:

Halid Djibril, LB, Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral

Active, tough and very aggressive, love the motor he plays with.

Kekaniokoa Gonzalez, OL, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei

True center who made the ‘final 5’ lineman competition at end of camp.

Jermayne Lole, DL, Paramount (Calif.)

Athletic defensive end prospect with a great frame, a lot of upside.

Solo Vaipulu, OL, Corona (Calif.) Centennial

Husky OLs are always tough, well coached, physical and highly aggressive, Solo checks all those boxes.

Jonah Welch, DL, Honolulu (Hawaii) Kamehameha

Very intriguing  player coming off the edge, can get after the quarterback.

National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins, Mountain/Island recruiting analyst Blair Angulo and Director of Recruiting Brandon Huffman contributed to this list.
