Jaylan Alexander is a 6-foot-2, 210-pound junior who had a good season as a wide receiver and has caught balls for BOOM Football's 7 on 7 team as well, but his size and strength has colleges liking his upside on defense.
"Mostly all the schools are only recruiting me for linebacker," he said.
Alexander had 73 tackles (eight for loss) and five sacks on defense in the fall. Currently, he has offers from Northern Illinois, who was the first school to offer him, Eastern Michigan, Western Illinois and Illinois State.
"It's been amazing," he said. "Not many people get the opportunity to play at the next level and get a free education. Even to get Division 1 offers is crazy because only 3% of high school student athletes go Division 1 and it's great to say I'm a part of that 3%."
There are other programs on the radar who have not offered yet, but are remaining on the radar with Alexander.
"North Dakota State has shown interest along with South Dakota. I've been talking to Miami (OH) here and there. Central Michigan and their coaches have been in contact with my head coach. A lot of schools will be up in the spring. I'm going down to NIU soon, North Dakota State, Eastern Michigan. Those visits will be coming up soon."
After spring visits, Alexander will look to get to summer camps and potentially earn more offers there.
