Recruiting Update with CB Starrland Baldwin Jr.

Scout caught up with fast-rising defensive back Starrland Baldwin Jr. to talk about his meteoric rise in the recruiting world...

After posting a 3.85 shuttle and being named the quickest man in Houston Starrland Baldwin Jr., a 5-foot-10, 160-pound cornerback from Cypress (Texas) Falls has been racking up offers.

Schools like ArizonaIowa StateKansasSMUTCU, and Oklahoma are a few of his current 13 offers.

"Each offer to me is special," Baldwin Jr. said, "because of the hard work we put in through the week with my coach and my trainer. It all pays off. It is a blessing. We are just taking it all in right now and seeing everything through and making sure I am making the right decision before I commit."

OU ball rolling for Baldwn Jr. with the P5 schools, and that offer was quickly followed by another heavy-hitter in the Big 12 Conference.

"Man it was crazy, because I was coming from having two non-FBS offers to having Oklahoma, so it was big-time," Baldwin Jr. said of the Sooners offer. "Coach (Kerry) Cooks made a great impression on me and my family. I love it up there.

I had been talking to TCU for awhile. They had come to see me at the school earlier in the year, so I had been talking to Coach (Billy) Gonzales, and then after OU offered then TCU offered and I went on a visit up there. It was great. It was just me and Trent Gordon up there, so I really got to bond with the coaches, Coach (Gary) Patterson, so it was really cool."

Baldwin Jr. is also on the radar of the Texas Longhorns, and he visited there recently for junior day. UT has yet to offer.

"They are building something really big," Baldwin Jr. recapped. "They are going to be something special. It was really impactful that they had all of the top prospects in the state that were all together because these are guys you have been playing wit for a couple of years, so it was really cool."

At this point Baldwin Jr. is not hunting for offers, but he has not yet narrowed his focus to certain schools either. His cut down list will be coming soon.

"Anyone I can get," Baldwin Jr. answered when asked if there were offers out there he wanted. "I am hungry for the nation. I am trying to be the nation’s best."

Baldwin Jr. is not in a certain rush to end his recruitment.

"I want to take my time with it and make sure that I make the right decision and get my mom up to a couple of visits, because the last couple of visits have just been me and my mom, so I want to make sure to get her on some visits and see what she likes."
