Kentucky QB A.J. Mayer holds five offers

Park Hills (Ky.) Covington Catholic quarterback A.J. Mayer talks about his five offers and the schools who will come see in through in the spring.

A.J. Mayer is one Midwest quarterback who schools are interested in seeing over the next few months as spring evaluation will begin and lead into summer camp season.

Mayer had a good junior season, passing for 20 touchdowns and 2,461 yards and rushing for 11 touchdowns. Couple that with his 6-foot-3, 200-pound frame and he has the tools colleges look for. He has five scholarship offers. Miami (OH) was first, then AkronBall State, Eastern Kentucky and Murray State came through.

"It was awesome," Mayer said. "It's one of those things you dream of as a kid and it seems surreal now that it is here."

He has been able to get out on some visits and has more coming up this spring.

"Of the schools that have offered me, I have been to Miami (Oh), Ohio, Ball State, and Eastern Kentucky. I plan on visiting Purdue, Memphis, WKU, Indiana, and Cincinnati."

Mayer says the schools who have not offered that are showing the most interest are Cincinnati, Boston College, Purdue, Western Kentucky and Memphis.

"Northwestern and Cincinnati said they would come watch me in the spring," he said.

He added, "I do not have any plans for summer camps yet."
