Recruiting Update with Scout 300 Safety Cam'ron Jones

Scout gets a recruiting update from four-star safety Cam'ron Jones, who is looking closely at five schools as his mid-April decision date approaches...

Cam'ron Jones, a 6-foot-0, 192-pound safety from Mansfield (Texas) High named a top four of Mississippi StateOklahoma, Texas Tech, and UCLA, but he is now adding one more school in the mix.

"Right now I am still looking at all of them," Jones said, "but right now it is getting down to money time because my commitment is coming up.

Now I am going to put Minnesota in there. I know that is a surprise school that people do not think of as big, but I think it is on the come up with a new head coach (P.J. Fleck) there and new facilities on the way, and you can’t be scared to try new things, so I am looking at Minnesota kind of hard."

Jones went on to break down the rest of the top schools on his list and reconfirmed his decision timeline.

Oklahoma - "I am going to start off with OU. OU it is still the same, still a great winning tradition and they are still the same coaches. They are probably not going any where any time soon, so I have a great relationship with all of the coaching staff there."

UCLA - "UCLA still stands the same. It is a great town and it still offers a one in a million type of degree. It is a place you can come back to after college and start a family there."

Mississippi State - "I put Mississippi State in there because it is in the SEC and you know they say that the best ball is in the SEC conference and they run the ball a lot, and I am a come down safety anyways, so you know I think I could fit great in that conference."

Texas Tech - "Also I have Texas Tech. I was previously committed to Texas Tech my sophomore summer before my junior year. Coach (Karl) Scott and Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury are great guys. It is a great college town, great fans."

"The commitment date is April 16th, Easter Sunday."

As was stated above, Jones has already made one non-binding verbal commitment to Texas Tech, so he has a bit of an idea for what he is looking for when it comes down to picking a school, but he is implementing some extra criteria into his decision making formula.

"This time I go to go with my gut, but I have to go with my heart too and my mind," Jones explained.

"I have been researching life after football with the graduation rates, even graduation rates for an African American male, I look at things that deep. And when my commitment date comes I am going to look at all of the factors to see which one can better me and make it easier going through this hard transition, so that is something I am going to have to have on commitment day."

Jones informed he will be making an unofficial visit to UCLA prior to his announcement date.
