The above video features footage of elite 2019 four-star quarterback Grant Gunnell from Houston St. Pius X at this past weekend's The Opening New Orleans regional camp at Joe Brown Memorial Park.
The 6-foot-5, 207-pound Gunnell earned a spot on Scout's Top Underclassmen breakdown from Sunday's camp as he stood out with his consistent play and impressive arm strength. Gunnell made good throws on differing routes to multiple levels and did not force anything when throwing 1-on-1 drills.
Gunnell has emerged as one of the top overall prospects in the state of Texas' 2019 class. He possesses an outstanding frame for the quarterback position, as well as the requisite intelligence. Gunnell posted staggering numbers in 2016, when he threw for 4,973 yards, 65 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, while rushing for 387 yards and five scores.
Despite a tall, long frame, Gunnell gets rid of the ball relatively quickly. He plays with an understanding of the game that impresses considering his age.
Stick with Scout as we continue to monitor Gunnell's recruitment and development.
