The above video features clips of big-framed 2018 quarterback M.J. Rivers from Frisco (Texas) Lone Star at this past weekend's The Opening New Orleans regional camp at Joe Brown Memorial Park.
In a position group full of high-profile quarterback prospects, Rivers more than held his own. The 6-foot-4, 213-pound Texan repeatedly showed great velocity, especially on throws toward the sideline. He threw a consistent spiral and also flashed the ability to push the ball vertically as needed.
Rivers' frame and arm strength give him an edge on the recruiting trail. He picked up an Iowa State offer last summer, but expect more to come for the emerging quarterback prospect from the Dallas area.
Rivers performed near the top of a QB group that also featured four-star Washington pledge Colson Yankoff, four-star Stanford pledge Jack West, top Louisiana quarterback Justin Rogers, and elite 2019 prospect Grant Gunnell. West and Rogers earned Elite 11 Finals invitations.
Stick with Scout as we continue to follow Rivers' recruitment and development.
